BuildingGreen Launches Ground-Breaking
Suite of Online Information Resources

Brattleboro, VT, November 12, 2003 – The publisher of Environmental Building News—the most comprehensive source of information in the green building industry—today announced the launch of the BuildingGreen Suite. This suite of online tools offers architects and building industry professionals an unprecedented integration of information for their work on LEED™-registered and other green projects.

“Building industry professionals are asking for more immediate access to better information on sustainable design, and introduction of the BuildingGreen Suite offers them the comprehensive web-based resources for completing client projects that they are asking for,” says Alex Wilson, president of BuildingGreen, Inc. and executive editor of Environmental Building News. The full launch of this suite of online tools took place on November 12, 2003, at the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild conference and expo in Pittsburgh, PA.

The most significant benefits to online subscribers of the BuildingGreen Suite are:

  • Online access to the GreenSpec® Directory of product listings, cross-referenced with articles and case studies and searchable by CSI MasterFormat™ section, LEED credit, and green topics—new products are added each month and listings are updated on a continual basis.
  • Online access to 12 years of Environmental Building News articles, cross-referenced with GreenSpec and searchable by CSI section, LEED credit, and green topics—an electronic issue of the latest monthly newsletter is added as the print issue goes to press.
  • Online access to case studies of more than 60 high-performance buildings, cross-referenced with GreenSpec and searchable by location, building type, LEED rating, and other parameters—new case studies will be added as they become available.
  • A powerful search engine that enables building professionals to pinpoint information on green strategies, building products, news, opinions, and trends in the industry.

Taking full advantage of the power of the Internet, each article, product listing, and case study includes links to related content and sources of further information. “We’ve built on our experience with interactive software tools, CD-ROMs, and Web sites to design a system that offers powerful features without clutter,” says Nadav Malin, BuildingGreen’s vice president and content director for the BuildingGreen Suite.

BuildingGreen’s subscribers include most architecture, engineering, and construction firms with an interest in green buildings, as well as building professionals in other organizations and agencies. A handful of leading firms, including HOK, Gensler, and William McDonough + Partners, have already purchased firm-wide licenses to the BuildingGreen Suite, putting the power of these tools at every desktop.

The development of the BuildingGreen Suite has been supported, in part, by a contract with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to build the new capabilities and bring this new service to architects and contractors throughout New York State. Other support has come from conversation, testing, and use of these tools by a number of national and regional architecture firms.

“BuildingGreen stands out because we do not carry advertising or accept corporate sponsorship for any of our informational resources, including Environmental Building News and the BuildingGreen Suite,” says Mr. Wilson. “This policy provides readers and users of BuildingGreen resources with the assurance that our research is objective and our product recommendations are made without influence or pressure from manufacturers.”

BuildingGreen, Inc. is an independent company committed to providing accurate, unbiased, and timely information that will help building professionals improve the environmental performance of buildings and surrounding landscapes. BuildingGreen offers both print and electronic resources to help firms design and construct buildings that minimize environmental impacts while maximizing economic performance.

Trial access to the BuildingGreen Suite (which in its pre-launch incarnation is named “Premium Web Content”) and previews of the new features are available to editors upon request. Screen capture and other images are also available in the online press room http://www.BuildingGreen.com/press/ or by calling 800 861-0954 x102.
